How Bitcoin network fees are calculated
A Bitcoin network fee is usually calculated as the fee rate in satoshis per virtual byte (sat/vB) multiplied by the transaction’s virtual size. The amount of Bitcoin being sent does not determine the fee. A transaction with more inputs or outputs is generally larger and can therefore cost more.
Where to find your transaction size
Your wallet may show the estimated virtual size before you send. If it does, enter that number for the most relevant calculation. The default 140 vB is only an example; address type, the number of spendable inputs, the number of recipients and change output can all alter the final size.
What the priority estimates mean
- High priority: a current estimate for users seeking faster inclusion.
- Medium priority: a lower estimate when immediate inclusion is less important.
- Low priority: a current estimate for users who can wait longer.
- Economy: a lower-cost estimate that may take longer to confirm.
