What is a satoshi?
A satoshi is the smallest unit recorded by the Bitcoin protocol. One satoshi equals 0.00000001 BTC, while one BTC equals 100 million satoshis. The unit is often shortened to “sat” or “sats”.
How the conversion works
The calculator first converts satoshis to BTC and then multiplies that amount by the current BTC/USD reference rate. For USD to satoshis, it performs the calculation in reverse and rounds to a whole satoshi.

Why wallets and fees use sats
Satoshis avoid long strings of zeros when describing small Bitcoin amounts. Wallets and payment tools may also express network fees as satoshis or as satoshis per virtual byte. A network fee is separate from an exchange trading fee or spread.
Reading the USD estimate
The dollar value of a fixed number of satoshis changes whenever the BTC/USD rate changes. The calculator uses the same recent reference rate as the main Bitcoin converter and shows its source and update time. An exchange quote can differ after fees and spread.
